Why Your Content Gets Read but Doesn’t Get Results (and How to Fix It)

Over the course of 2025, my LinkedIn following grew by more than 18,000 people. In a year when many creators felt their numbers were plateauing, my content did the opposite. Impressions were up. My launches were strong. Sales hit record levels. From the outside, everything looked to be humming.

In early 2026, though, I wasn’t seeing the conversion numbers I wanted for my signature offering, Brand Inner Circle. Inner Circle is my premier community for advisors and consultants looking to define and own their ideas, cement their status as thought leaders, and turn their increased influence into high-dollar income. (Think of it like the training ground and proven playbooks to become your industry’s next Mel Robbins.)

Now, my team and I designed Brand Inner Circle to be a no-brainer in terms of value. In fact, most of our Inner Circle members say, “I can’t believe the annual rate for this community is what it is, given what we get and how you work with us.”

And we get great results for people like getting Ted stages, six-figure contracts, best-selling book launches, etc.

And yet…

And yet, and yet, and yet. Conversion was just slower than projected, given how high traffic and email open rates were.

I brought my dilemma to an entrepreneur mastermind forum I participate in to closely examine my analytics, clarify my challenge, and address what I can't see from within my business: my own blind spots.

After I verbally threw up on my wonderful peers for about 10 minutes, Susan so kindly said…

“Kait, we read all of your content. Every single newsletter. It’s excellent, like really good. But still, as a reader and a mastermind colleague, I’ll say this…While I understand what you do and that you’re the best at it, I still don’t understand how the fck to work with you.”

I hired Cynthia Erivo to do a re-enactment of my reaction to Susan’s words. (kidding, duh)

Time of death for me: immediately after Susan’s statement

Time of rebirth with newfound clarity: one second after that

You see, I live for moments I get lovingly body-slammed by truth. (No, I’m not a masochist, it’s just that most people don’t give it to ya straight when that’s often what you need. That’s why I love trusted communities.)

And here’s what my big takeaway was after 2 other members piled on to that sentiment…

They weren’t saying they didn’t trust me. They were saying they didn’t know what to do next.

That’s the part I can’t “content” my way out of. And I bet you may be doing the same…

The problem isn’t your content. It’s the missing conversion layer.

If your sales aren’t where you want them, it’s usually one of two things:

  1. Your offer isn’t aligned with what your market actually needs. (product problem)

  2. Your offer is solid, but people can’t easily understand how to buy it. (packaging problem)

Now, most of us don’t default to analyzing whether we have a number one or number two problem. (Yes, I said “number two problem”. Moving on.) Instead, we jump straight to imagined option three: I just need to do more content!!!”

Wrongo!

ALWAYS start with one or two. I promise you, it’s usually one of those two things. Fix that, and your sales will scale proportionally.

Here’s a quick gut check to do it:

Are people buying but not staying — low retention, low renewals? That’s likely a product problem.

Are people engaging, asking questions, telling you they love your work — but not pulling the trigger? That’s a packaging problem. Fix whichever one applies, and your sales will scale proportionately.

So, in my case, I knew it wasn’t primarily #1, a product issue. As evidence above, the people inside my paid community get real outcomes. The feedback is consistent: they’re shocked by how much support they get for what they pay. Results, case studies, and retention told me the offer had teeth.

So why was conversion lagging in some places?

Because I had been optimizing for attention—and assuming conversion would take care of itself.

What a trap.

Because attention feels like progress (followers, reactions, engagements, woo hoo!).

But conversion? Well, that requires smack-ya-in-the-face-clarity.

And clarity is boring. Clarity is repetitive. Clarity is “I’ve said this 100 times already.”

But clarity is also what pays you.

This is where a little buyer psychology helps. Researchers Sheena Iyengar and Mark Lepper famously found that when shoppers were presented with more choices, more people stopped—but fewer people purchased. When the choice set was reduced, purchases increased. (UW Faculty)

Your content can be the “Costco table” that everyone samples. (iykyk)

But if your offers are scattered, hidden, or constantly changing, you create the same friction: people enjoy the experience… and then walk away.

So I built a simple fix—one you can install immediately, as I am.

The “Make It Obvious” Conversion Layer: 3 fixes

This is not a “post more” strategy.

This is a “make it easier to buy what you already sell” strategy. This is the “cash hiding in plain sight, ya silly billy” strategy.

Install #1: Re-audit your LinkedIn profile

If someone lands on your LinkedIn profile today, can they answer these questions in 10 seconds?

What do you do?

  • Who do you do it for?

  • What are the three core ways to work with you?

  • What’s the first step?

If you’re like me, your profile is an evolving beast. You do launches. You do campaigns. You do partnerships. You update the featured section… and then you forget to reset it back to the core.

So people come in hot from your content—then hit a profile that feels like they walked into a store where the signage still says “Holiday Specials,” and it’s February. (I’m wincing as I write how accurate this is to me)

Do this today: create your “Core 3 Offer Menu” and pin it to your profile.

Here’s the format:

3 ways to work with me:

  1. Offer 1 — best for [who][$X / starts at / by application][next step]

  2. Offer 2 — best for [who][$X / starts at / by application][next step]

  3. Offer 3 — best for [who][$X / starts at / by application][next step]

And if you don’t want to share pricing publicly, don’t hide the offer. Use language like “starts at,” “by application,” or “custom quote.” That keeps it clear and can even signal premium positioning.

Your profile is not where you prove you’re smart and say every single thing you want to say ever.

Your profile is where you remove confusion and give a path to a sale.

Install #2: The Close (because people shouldn’t have to DM you just to understand your offers)

Here’s something I’ve learned the hard way: when your next step is unclear, your reader assumes the next step is getting sold to.

”Guess I’ll just have to DM them, then hop on a call where they ‘sell’ me.” Ack. No one likes that. We like to buy, we don’t like to be sold. And that’s the generous version. Most people will register reaching out as one more task for them to do, and then they just don’t do it.

So they don’t ask.

They just keep consuming.

That’s why “closing” matters—not in a pushy way, but in a relieving way. It’s the difference between “I hope you reach out” and “Here’s the exact door to walk through.”

Justin Welsh does this well, and so do a lot of strong operators: they end content with a simple, consistent offer menu at the end of content. Here’s one of my former students, Tiffany, doing this flawlessly 💅🏻

Here’s the close you can paste at the bottom of posts, newsletters, and emails:

Whenever you’re ready, here are 3 ways I can help:

  • Option 1: For [who][what it is][price language][next step]

  • Option 2: For [who][what it is][price language][next step]

  • Option 3: For [who][what it is][price language][next step]

Now, like Tiffany, you may just have “one thing.” Maybe 2. That’s ok. My advice? Just don’t go over 3. (Our brains love grouping things in 3. Anything more than that can short-circuit us by providing too many options.

Remember, the close is your consistency. It’s your signpost. It’s the part that turns attention into action without making you feel like you’re turning every post into a sales pitch.

Install #3: “About the Author” (because people forget who you are faster than you think)

This one surprised me, but it shouldn’t have.

I’m on a lot of email lists. Sometimes I opted in months ago. Sometimes I love the content. And then one day I open an email and think: “Wait… who is this again?”

Your audience is doing the same thing.

Even if they like you. Even if they trust you. Even if they’ve seen your name before.

So start adding a short “About the author” block at the bottom of your newsletters—especially private email newsletters where someone subscribed but may have checked out. Here’s a great example:

Here’s a stealable template you can customize:

[Your name] helps [who] do/achieve [what] through [how]. [One sentence on your credibility or what makes you different.] Ready to [desired outcome]? [Next step + link.]."

The takeaway: We don’t need more followers or traffic. We need fewer confused ones.

If your content is working—if you’re getting likes, comments, saves, replies, email opens, DMs—you’re probably sitting on more revenue than you realize.

But you won’t collect it by increasing output.

You’ll collect it by installing a conversion layer:

  • Profile: your Core 3, pinned and obvious

  • Close: a consistent “here are 3 ways” menu everywhere you publish

  • About the author: the reminder that turns passive readers into active buyers

And if you implement nothing else, implement this:

Make it so clear how to work with you that a person could buy from you without having to ask a single question.

That’s not being salesy. That’s being kind.

If this resonated — and you want the system behind it:

This is exactly the kind of work we do inside Brand Inner Circle.

Not just content strategy. The full conversion layer — your positioning, your messaging, your profile, your close — built and refined with a community of established advisors and consultants who are doing the same work alongside you.

Members like Brian Burke went from posting to closing a $36K deal in a month. Sarah Haynes booked her first $100K contract directly from LinkedIn within 3 months. Not because they posted more. Because they finally got clear on how to make it easy to buy from them.

If you’re getting the engagement but not the conversions, that’s not a content problem. You already know that now.

Just getting started?

30-Day LinkedIn Brand Builder

Clarify your message, optimize your profile, and build a content system that attracts your ideal clients.

For me the biggest win was gaining clarity - who am I, who I serve, and my niche/superpower. I would say THAT was my biggest win in 30-Day. From there, I was able to identify my content pillars, and I can now confidently articulate my value proposition to the audience I want to attract because I have a well-defined million-dollar market with a live grand slam offer. I'd been on LinkedIn for some time, but this program has helped me turn my visibility into leverage in the best way possible.

Ready to scale your influence?

Brand Inner Circle

Get weekly content labs, monthly coaching, expert-led workshops, and the accountability you need to turn your expertise into income.

Brand Inner Circle has been way more effective (and more enjoyable) than I expected. In about a month, the content started driving real outcomes — $36k realized to date. It also created inbound opportunities we weren’t even aiming for, including interest from a billionaire that turned into a deal. The bigger win is this: the content didn’t just ‘perform.’ It clarified our positioning so well that it led to a real third revenue stream. The demand for our events concierge service came in so fast after my posting, and it’s now clearly a core line of business.
