Stop Chasing the Feed: The One LinkedIn Feature Beating the Algorithm (and AI) in 2026

I’ve grown a LinkedIn newsletter to 55,044 subscribers—that’s ~31% bigger than my follower base—and it drives more leads than any other channel. And this isn’t specific to me; in 2026, LinkedIn’s algorithm and AI search engines are rewarding long-form expertise while feed reach shrinks for other types of content.

Inside: why long-form wins, how to structure it for discovery, and the exact steps to launch yours fast.

In 2018, I was invited to a LinkedIn “newsletter beta” program. The pitch was simple: “We want to give users the opportunity to host newsletters people can subscribe to, and you write a lot of articles—want to try it out?” Naturally, I said yes. Joining a beta often means you benefit from a first-mover advantage. But I have to admit, what followed went beyond anything I expected.

Fast forward seven years, and my LinkedIn newsletter’s growth has far outpaced my other channels. Today, I have about 42,000+ LinkedIn followers, but 55,044 newsletter subscribersyes, my LinkedIn newsletter subscriber base is 31% larger than my LinkedIn audience! And the newsletter hasn’t just been a vanity metric win; it’s fundamentally changed how I generate leads, build authority, and even make sales. And it can for you too. So let’s break down how.

❇️ Why Is Long-Form Content More Crucial Than Ever?

It’s easy to think “nobody has an attention span anymore,” but in reality, decision-makers are hungrier than ever for substance. Recent research by Edelman and LinkedIn showed that high-quality, in-depth thought leadership content opens doors “where ads fall short,” especially with the behind-the-scenes influencers in companies. In other words, busy professionals will read more if the extra words deliver extra value.

There’s data to back this up. Chartbeat found that average engaged reading time actually increases with longer word counts – up to 2,000–4,000 words. People stick around for content that goes deep, because that depth provides the nuance needed for complex decisions.

And look at the broader trend: Substack (the long-form newsletter platform) surged past 5 million paid subscriptions in early 2025. Long-form content isn’t dying; it’s mainstream when the value is real and the voice is trusted.

❇️ Why Are LinkedIn Newsletters a Crucial Strategy for 2026?

So, why do this on LinkedIn of all places? Simply put, LinkedIn newsletters marry the power of long-form with the distribution of the world’s largest professional network. And as we approach 2026, this is shaping up to be a strategic sweet spot.

🔷 First, LinkedIn’s algorithm itself has evolved. LinkedIn has openly stated it now prioritizes content that demonstrates knowledge and advice (over shallow engagement-bait posts). Platform updates and industry rundowns repeat the guidance: share credible, experience-based advice relevant to your community. That’s a huge tailwind for long-form formats like newsletters that package an argument – not just a hot take. In other words, the algorithm is increasingly on the side of depth and quality.

In fact, the latest LinkedIn Algorithm InSights report from Richard Van Der Blom Oct 2025) found that articles and newsletters experienced a major comeback, with reach up nearly 48% and engagement up 45% on average from February 2025. With better in-feed visibility and new analytics, articles are finally fulfilling their promise as a credible channel for thought leadership. (Translation: LinkedIn is rewarding long-form educational content, not just posts that collect quick clicks.)

🔷 Second, supply is still lagging behind demand. Yes, LinkedIn has over 1 billion members, but only “tens of thousands” of newsletters so far. There’s volume, but the slice of people writing newsletters is tiny compared to the massive audience. For well-defined niches, it’s much easier to stand out on LinkedIn right now with a newsletter than in the overcrowded blogosphere. In my case, I picked a niche (personal brand building) and quickly became one of the go-to newsletters in that space, simply because there weren’t many others consistently delivering value via this medium.

🔷 Third, LinkedIn has been actively improving the newsletter experience for creators. In February 2025, they rolled out enhanced newsletter analytics – including email sends and open rates – right on LinkedIn. Now, when I publish, I can see how many people got it via email, what the open rate was, etc., alongside views and new subscribers. For us creators, this is gold: it lets you tie your LinkedIn newsletter directly to leads and sales outcomes. (I routinely pair my LinkedIn newsletter with a fuller article on my own website, using LinkedIn as a huge traffic driver to my site and email list.)

🔷 Finally, LinkedIn newsletters operate under a different algorithm than regular feed posts – and that’s a good thing. Here’s an alarming stat: the average LinkedIn feed post’s reach dropped by roughly 20% in 2024, and 2025 has seen further declines. Yikes! LinkedIn is so crowded now (1.2B users, 69M pages) that the platform significantly throttled feed visibility for regular posts.

✨ Here’s the antidote: LinkedIn newsletters. ✨ Unlike a fleeting post, a newsletter issue goes out to all your subscribers with a notification and even an email. It lives on a dedicated page and is highly searchable. In fact, it’s treated more like an article – meaning it doesn’t get lost in the feed frenzy. My newsletter issues consistently reach a far higher percentage of people (and keep getting views for weeks) compared to normal posts. LinkedIn essentially created a parallel content track for newsletters, one that isn’t subject to the same feed overcrowding. And as a result, I’m gaining while many others watch their metrics shrink.

🎯 Bottom line: Heading into 2026, a LinkedIn newsletter is looking like one of the smartest growth moves you can make. It taps into LinkedIn’s new focus on expertise, faces relatively little competition, and now comes with the data tools to prove ROI. No wonder it’s often cited as “one of the most leverage-rich plays for 2026” for thought leadership marketing.

❇️ How Do LinkedIn Newsletters Boost Your Visibility (Even in AI Searches)?

There’s another reason my LinkedIn newsletter has been a game-changer: it doesn’t just reach people on LinkedIn – it also boosts my presence on Google and even AI answer engines. This is a new frontier: think about tools like ChatGPT’s browsing, Google’s SGE (AI snapshots), Bing Chat, and so on. They’re answering people’s questions with summarized info, often citing sources. You want to be that source. And guess what type of content these AI engines love? Long-form, comprehensive, and credible pages.

Generative AI search engines prefer sources that are comprehensive, up-to-date, and authoritative. A detailed LinkedIn newsletter that fully answers a question in my niche is far more likely to be excerpted or cited by these AI systems than a short social post that barely scratches the topic. In fact, there’s evidence that generic LinkedIn posts usually don’t carry enough authority weight to get picked up in an AI answer. But a well-structured newsletter article? That can get referenced. I’ve tested this myself: ask ChatGPT about LinkedIn newsletters or personal branding, and it often surfaces insights very similar to things I’ve published. That’s not a coincidence.

⭐ What Results Have I Seen from My Newsletter?

Numbers and algorithms aside, let me share what truly convinces me that my LinkedIn newsletter has been a game changer: the real people and opportunities it has brought into my network.

One day, I was thrilled to see a connection request from a CMO of a major restaurant group that I patronize frequently. I was wondering what the triggering event was that had her reach out to me. Fortunately, she answered the question for me:

She literally discovered me because of LinkedIn newsletters. Carla had been pruning her overloaded inbox, found my newsletter, got value from it, and then reached out — potentially opening the door to a client relationship (and hey, I won’t turn down a restaurant invite either!). This isn’t an isolated incident. I’ve had countless DMs and conversations start thanks to the newsletter content I’m putting out. In fact, I can track more sales conversations and new connections from my LinkedIn newsletter than from any other marketing channel I use. It’s like a magnet for the right people.

❇️ How Can You Start Your Own LinkedIn Newsletter?

If you haven’t launched a LinkedIn newsletter yet, I can’t implore you enough to do so. No matter your industry, if you have expertise to share, a newsletter can be one of the biggest catalysts to skyrocket your LinkedIn growth and establish you as a thought leader. It’s done that for me – and with LinkedIn doubling down on long-form content, the window of opportunity is wide open for 2026.

Now, you might be thinking, “Alright, I’m sold on the why. But how do I actually do this effectively?” I’ve got you covered with “The LinkedIn Newsletter Growth Formula” – a step-by-step video course to take you from zero to thought leader with your own newsletter. It’s essentially my playbook, distilled into an easy checklist with videos. In it, I walk you through:

  • How to craft an irresistible newsletter title and topic (so you instantly grab your target audience’s attention).

  • How to secure your first few hundred subscribers within a day (yes, it’s possible with the right launch strategy!).

  • How to develop an entire annual content calendar (never run out of high-value things to say).

  • How to convert newsletter readers into customers (because what’s the point of subscribers if they don’t become clients or buyers?).

  • And how to use one newsletter to generate over 6 pieces of standalone short-form content.
